Entrepreneurial Background
Shawn earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska, a master’s degree in business administration from Drake University, and a law degree from Creighton University. Ilg started his career with Norwest Bank in Minneapolis, and after law school, he became a partner in the law firm of Downing, Alexander, Wood & Ilg. He has started and co-founded over 20 businesses in his career and has helped clients start hundreds over time. The most notable firm was CoSentry, a data center and IT services firm with multiple Midwest facilities that he co-founded in the 2000's. Firms that he has co-founded or had ownership in are in many different industries including software, pet services, motorcycle dealerships, home security, communications consulting, restaurants, software, many IT firms, and several tied to real estate investment.

As a serial entrepreneur, Ilg can relate to his clients at levels different than most advisors. He will be the first to admit that some of his ventures have gone well (one sold for 9 figures), and he has “lost his ass” on many others.
